TIPS AND TOOLS TO MAKE WORKING FROM HOME EASIER AND MORE ENJOYABLE

The past month has gone past in a blur, and due to Coivd-19 restrictions, more people than ever are finding themselves having to work at home. This maybe a blessing for some, with no commute and having a day on your terms, but for others it can be difficult to get the job done. We have got a few hints and tips to help make your day a little more productive.

A routine is key

Our biggest tip is to stick to a routine, as this will help to ‘normalise’ your day. Set your alarm, get changed (out of pyjamas!) and prepare as though you are going to work. Even though you don’t have a commute, this does help mentally prepare you prepare for the day ahead and get into the “I’m going to work” mindset.

Structure your day

When working from home, you are your own boss, which can be a curse and a blessing. The likelihood is you will have more time to get on with things without being interrupted and by missing those meetings that could have been an email!

Our tip is to divide your day into 4 different segments and decide what you’ll do in which segment. As an example, it could look like this:

9:00 – 11:00 (Before coffee slot)

11:15 – 13:00 (Before lunch slot)

13:30 – 15:00 (Before afternoon coffee slot)

15:15 – 17:30 (Before leaving slot)

By working in allocated slots, you can allocate tasks to these time periods, knowing what needs to be done, all whilst thinking about your lunch or next coffee break.

Make a list

This is a big one for us at INOV8 Marketing, we just love a list! There are heaps of tools that can help to keep you on track. We could not work without MeisterTask and cannot recommend it enough! This free tool (more exciting features are available in the paid options) really makes it easy to understand what you’ve got to achieve and when by. It is truly awesome, and they haven’t paid us to say that! Head on over to their website to check it out.

Make a space your ‘workspace’

Like you do in your own office, choose a workspace to make yours. Whether it be a potted plant, photo, or a Himalayan Salt Lamp, make it yours. This will help you to think of this space as a ‘work space’ and help you concentrate more. Depending on what your attention span is like, we would recommend not having a TV within view, as this can be distracting, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find an awesome playlist on Spotify. We recommend some of these playlists for those looking for some great easy listening music;

And this is a great one for a Friday Afternoon! – Friday Feeling Playlist

Keep active

It is very easy to sit at your desk and get engrossed in a task, and before you know it, it’s dinner time. Make sure that you set aside some time to stretch your legs and get out and about. Whether you have a short walk, or a stretch in the garden, it is important to come away from the screen and take a moment to relax.

Work when you are most productive

Some of us are early birds, some of us are night owls. The beauty about working from home is it allows you to work a way that you want (within reason!). If you are more productive in the morning, then start early and finish earlier. If you find that you take a while to warm up in the mornings, then start a bit later and work a bit later. It’s about finding your balance of what works for you, and when you are being most productive.

Work smarter with great free tools

There are a whole host of tools that can help make your tasks that little bit easier. Some of the tools we use in our daily activities may be useful to you, so we thought we would list them here!

MeisterTask – As mentioned earlier in the article, this free tool allows you to create the world’s most awesome to-do list, alongside a whole host of other tricks too.

Tawk.To – This is a Livechat system that we use on our website, and it is completely free. It adds another way for customers to get in touch, and they have a mobile application too so you can pick up hot leads when you are out and about.

Hootsuite – Do you look after social media channels? If so, you need to be using Hootsuite! It offers a basic free package, allowing you to post to multiple social media channels from one clean interface, as well as allowing you to schedule up to 30 posts in advance. They also have a paid version which is even more powerful. It’s a great time saving product you should certainly think of using.

SmallPDFTools – This awesome website can do just about anything to a PDF, and it is great if you need something signed like a contract or document.

Communicate expectations with anyone who will be home with you

This was a great top tip from Hubspot! The likelihood is you will be working from home but still have others at home with you. Hubspot have said “Make sure any roommates, siblings, parents, spouses, and dogs (well, maybe not dogs) respect your space during work hours. Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you are home.”

When you finish, make sure you finish!

Our final tip is to make sure you ‘turn off’ from work. It is very easy to sit there and carry on as you’re in the comfort of your own home, but it is important to rest and refresh your mind, so you can work and your best when you need too.

So, there you have it, a few hints and tips from INOV8 Marketing on making the most of your home working time. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more helpful articles, news and general niceness.
