IS PRINT STILL RELEVANT? HERE ARE 3 REASONS WHY PRINT SHOULD BE PART OF YOUR MARKETING STRATEGY 

 As a small business owner, there are a lot of different hats you’ve got to wear. At INOV8 Marketing, we like to hand out some hints and tips on small business marketing, to make things a little bit easier. This week, we have been focusing on print marketing, and whether it is something that you should be investing in. We have 3 reasons why print still has a place in the marketing world, and why it is something you should be looking to do.

PEOPLE ENGAGE MORE WITH PRINT

According to an article from PRI, the part of the brain we use for reading online content is different from the part that we use to read written text in papers, magazines, flyers and so on. When we read printed materials, we use the ‘deep-reading’ part of our brain, which helps us to remember the information better versus digital content.

In a nutshell, if you are wanting to stand out from all the noise online, people are more receptive to printed materials. Printed media offers fewer distractions, and it also helps the reader better absorb your advert and the services or products you’re offering.

REACH MULTIPLE GENERATIONS

 Nobody is disputing the power of digital advertising. It is a powerful tool that can unlock a huge customer base. Print however, can tap into a customer base that isn’t always online. A recent survey by GOV.UK, shows that 99% of adults between 16 and 44 were internet users. However, this decreased the older the user. Print enables you to get into the hands of these older users that may not be accessing the internet on a regular basis.

If you have a wide target audience, spanning a variety of age ranges such as a plumber for example, you would want to target a whole host of age ranges, and print would be a great way of doing this. On the flip side, if you were a skincare range for teenagers, then print may not be as effective as a digital campaign. You need to analyse your target audience and think if print is the right method for you.

OUR FINAL THOUGHTS

People love a freebie, so why not give the people what they want. Competitions on social media are a cheap and easy way of getting your followers excited about something and creating a buzz around a product or service you’re offering. The prizes don’t have to be expensive, but whatever you offer it needs to be something that people want and BE relevant to your customers.

How you get your adverts in front of your audience can be in many different forms. You can do leaflet drops, newspaper adverts, flyers or advertisements in local magazines. There are many ways in which you can do it, but it can be a costly exercise if your message is too broad. Our recommendations are:

  • Don’t be too generic, make sure your artwork sings and make sure it’s error free.

  • You can offer an incentive or discount, which can help track the success of your campaign.

  • Don’t do to much of one thing, it’s good to have a mixture of print and digital, and don’t put all your eggs in the one basket.
